Santosh Kumar Dhanopia and his brother, Mukesh Kumar Dhanopia, belong to Sanganer, Jaipur, Rajasthan, India. Their family has been involved in Sanganeri hand block printing (a Geographical Indication-certified work) for generations. The tradition started with their grandfather,Shri. Satyanarayan Ji. Now in its 6th generation, their sons continue the legacy. Dr. Santosh Kumar Dhanopia was honored State Award in 2005 by State Government. He completed Doctor of Arts from Chennai. He also won community Leadership Award 2012 Rajasthan. Mr. Mukesh Kumar Dhanopia won National Award 2009 by Government of India. They have also been recognized internationally, showcasing their work in over 32 countries.
In addition to their own achievements, the next generation, including Devraj, Udayraj, and Yuvraj Dhanopia, has taken up the mantle to ensure the continuity and relevance of this art form. They actively participate in international exhibitions, inter-college events, and community outreach programs, adding their creative innovations to the craft. Notably, they have expanded the traditional two-color palette into multi-colored designs, incorporating modern techniques while maintaining the integrity of the traditional processes.
The family strongly believes in preserving India’s handloom and handicraft traditions, urging people to adopt these sustainable and culturally significant practices. They view Sanganeri hand block printing not just as a craft but as a representation of India’s glorious heritage and artistic ingenuity. Through their work, they hope to inspire a deeper appreciation for handloom and handicrafts, both in India and abroad, while fostering innovation and sustainability in the field.
